Digging Bugs
Here is a picture of one of the other pastures shot in the winter when there is plenty of grass. In this photo, Earl and his girls are happily digging for bugs.
Brooders
We have custom built brooders that are 2' x 5' . The chicks stay in these brooders until they are 2 weeks old. At two weeks, the side door of the brooder is opened and the chicks are allowed to frolic in a 12 x 12 horse stall and retreat to their heated brooder at will.
As the chicks grow, the brooders are replaced by perches and heat lamps are suspended from the ceiling. At 4 weeks of age, the stall door is opened to a 12' x 24' paddock that is fenced appropriately for young chicks to protect against predators.
Game On
The first few hours of the doors being opened the chicks simply stay in the stall and look out wondering if its safe. After that - it's game on. The chicks spend their day in the paddock enjoying the sun, grass and dirt bathes.
The chicks are locked in at night, and the heat lamps are turned on. They enjoy these comforts until they are 8 weeks old and then it is time for them to move onto their new homes or out to pasture.
You will not find happier chicks or chickens .... anywhere!!!

Breeding Pens
We have three new breeding pens. Each coop is 4 X 8 and the run is 16 x 16. Each coop houses 1 rooster with 5-7 hens.
