I am so happy that I found Deann and Just Struttin Farm! I was looking for specific, heritage breed hens to start my backyard flock--and she had them all. Deann responded to my email quickly and made the purchase very easy. I was very impressed with the barn for the hens--it was clean, didn't smell bad and the pullets had room to grow. I purchased six cross breed pullets and a Favarelle Rooster from Deann a few months back and was very impressed with the quality and overall health of the birds. Deann clearly enjoys raising chickens and is very knowledgeable.
At first, I was skeptical about owning a rooster however, the rooster has turned out to be a welcome addition to my flock. When turned out, he alerts all the hens of danger and shows them where the best food is, often letting them eat before he does.
" Ferdinand" has shown absolutely no aggression towards people or the hens and is actually quite affectionate. Now I would not consider having a flock with out a rooster to watch over them.

Several months ago my Mom and I decided to expand our chicken coop from just 2 hens to a flock of either 3 or 4. Deann provided me with excellent advice on how many and how old of chickens I should choose, as well as how to introduce the new hens to the current coop. Her chickens were very robust and healthy, much larger than the two hens we already had (which were the same age). They were also docile and gentle, completely comfortable with being handled by people. Today our girls are one big happy family, all laying and enjoying each day's bounty from the garden. They greet us enthusiastically whenever we are nearby. I will absolutely contact Deann in the future if I have need for more chickens.
